Mission Statement

"Alpha Epsilon Pi was founded to provide opportunities for the Jewish college man seeking the best possible college and fraternity experience. We have maintained the integrity of our purpose by strenghthening our ties to the Jewish community and serving as a link between high school and career. Our basic purpose is to provide the opportunity for a Jewish man to be able to join a Jewish organization whose purpose is not specifically religious, but rather social and cultural in nature. Alpha Epsilon Pi is a Jewish fraternity, though non-discriminatory and open to all who are willing to espouse its purpose and values."

History

Epsilon Pi at VCU dates back to 1970, a year upon which several other greek associations colonized on campus. However, Alpha Epsilon Pi lost momentum a few years later for unknown reasons. In the spring semester of 2006, AEPi was revitalized rapidly. Jonathan Howard and Steven Flick contacted Craig Hoovler, a graduate and a brother of the Omega Chapter at UNC Chapel Hill, about starting chapters of AEPi. Howard and Flick along with Art Schustek, Patrick Kraft, Justin Epstein, and Jeffrey Bookbinder soon made up six of the ten founding fathers. Tom Coltrain, Julian Rose-Carmack, David Freydin, and Shawn Tiernan were recruited just weeks later to join the brotherhood. The founding father class went through pledge together to tighten the brotherhood bond, despite it not being required. The founding father class was initiated at UNC Chapel Hill in April of 2006.

Man Bear Pig

We, at the Epsilon Pi chapter owe many thanks to this one creature that shall forever prowl in the back of our minds. He believed in us and made it possible for us to start the Epsilon Pi Colony in hopes of getting Virginia Commonwealth University re-chartered. "Man Bear Pig" is only his title; he is Craig Alan Hoovler, an alumni of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill known for promoting Jewish culture. Craig received a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is currently attending Washington University School Of Law.
